BOOKING COURTS
ALLOCATION OF COURTS AND COURT BOOKING PROCEDURE
Introduction
Generally, it should not be necessary to book a court between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday during term time. It is, however, always advisable to check the situation in order to guarantee a court as there are occasions when schools visit and use all the courts for a short period.
This note therefore mainly applies for the following times;
4pm - 10pm Monday to Friday during term time
Every weekend
All day Monday - Friday during school holidays
Rules
Team matches take priority over any other use of the courts. Please refer to the published match list. Note that fixtures may change. Always telephone to confirm court availability.
Any team match that has to be reorganised and clashes with a booked court will take priority and the booking will have to be changed.
Some items are pre-booked into the court schedule. A list follows these rules.
Unless there is a special event requiring use of all the courts, at least one court will remain non-bookable at most times, so that members may turn up and play. Where there are more than two such members, doubles should be played. Where two members are playing singles or four members are playing doubles and other members are waiting, those playing should stop after 20 minutes or the completion of a short set (first to 6 games), whichever occurs first.
One court will not necessarily be non-bookable and available for "turn up and play" during the period of the club tournament.
The courts to which this note refers are 1, 2, 3, 4 + 5.
These are the tarmac courts.
Each court is clearly numbered.
The shale courts (courts 6 + 7) will not be bookable.
Rules relating to court 3, where the floodlights turn off at 7.30pm, apply in the summer months. Where courts 1, 2, 4 + 5 are occupied in the winter and members wish to play on court 3 in the light overspill from court 2, they may do so unless there is a team match on courts 1 + 2 and the home team members object.
It is not possible to block book a particular court for a regular session for several weeks in a row.
Courts can be booked, in the pavillion, by recording on the booking sheet the court required, time needed and date.
